The second episode in the BNP Paribas short-film series features Cemex, a global leader in the building materials industry, focusing on their sustainable practices and innovative solutions. The series follows BNP Paribas’ sustainability partner, Craig Leeson, as he travels around the globe, showcasing the transition journeys of some of the Bank’s clients and partners worldwide, highlighting resilience and innovation.
The global cement industry is a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, accounting for about 8% of the world’s total output. Cemex is on a mission to help to change this through its ‘Future in Action’ strategy, aimed at contributing to climate change mitigation by reducing CO₂ emissions in their production processes.
Cemex goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with science-based decarbonisation targets and a clear roadmap. The Mexican-headquartered company will approximately invest US$150 million annually to meet its 2030 CO₂ targets and work with external partners for validation, aiming to set the highest industry standards by the end of this decade.
❝ At Cemex, we believe in the principle of circular economy because concrete has a unique ability and a unique characteristic in that it can be 100% recyclable and reused again. ❞
❝ BNP Paribas is partnering with Cemex in supporting their sustainability ambition in different ways. We see them investing in new technologies and new products. I think we can say they’re ahead of the game. ❞
