BNP Paribas hosted its second International
Hackathon in June, a global event simultaneously held in eight countries, where
fintech firms competed to create solutions around the theme, “Streamlining the customer
journey through co-creation with startups”.
In San Francisco, London, Paris, Brussels, Rome, Berlin, Warsaw and Istanbul, the Hackthon comprised 96 startups and businesses from across the BNP Paribas Group, including Retail to Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB), which combined the agility of tech startups with the insights and resources of an established and progressive banking group. CIB proposed two client challenges: “I want BNP Paribas to help me get a consolidated view on my portfolio, and simulate investment scenarios to make optimal portfolio decisions”; and “I would like BNP Paribas to give me the online tools to help me make the right financial decision for my business”. The competitors worked throughout the weekend of 17-19 June to develop and pitch a solution to a jury comprising BNP Paribas managers and fintech experts.
The event culminated in 18 startups being selected to develop their projects during the next ‘Digital Bootcamp’ stage. After the final pitch in December, the winner will retain the intellectual property to the solution, which underlines the spirit of true collaboration between banks and fintech.
This event underscores our ambition to remain at the forefront of the industry and our ongoing digital transformation – and reinforces our long-term commitment to work with startups to bring new solutions our clients.
