Sir David King, Special Representative for Climate Change, UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office speaking about clean energy This year BNP Paribas hosted a series of events within the EMEA region to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to sustainability. Six events were held across Paris, London and Munich, where external speakers from the United Nations, UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and Marks & Spencer, amongst others, engaged with BNP Paribas about climate finance, Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) issues, and the physical impacts of climate change. In January Paris held a Sustainable Finance Day, where BNP Paribas management, teams and external speakers gathered to discuss how sustainable finance solutions can help corporates and investors to meet their sustainability requirements. This included a panel debate about the costs and positive impacts of sustainability integration, featuring the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the European Commission and the Internal Energy Agency (IEA). This included senior BNP Paribas sustainability specialists offering clients insight into the various ESG solutions available to help address their current and future ESG needs, such as Green Bonds and ESG reporting. E-mobility was also incorporated into the event, and visitors were able to test-drive e-cars and learn more about how electric vehicles can aid the transition to a low carbon economy. London was host to four lunch seminars throughout March and April, where each event highlighted BNP Paribas CIB’s contribution towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Topics included clean energy, ESG analytics, Green Bonds and the Business of Sustainability. Each event featured high profile external speakers including keynote speakers from the UN, Sir David King (Special Representative for Climate Change, UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office), British retailer Marks and Spencer, and NGOs.
