Arunma Oteh, Treasurer of the World Bank explains
that we are at an inflection point when it comes to sustainability and sustainable
financing, referencing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and the
2015 Paris Agreement. She goes on to explain that nearly 30% of the World
Bank’s financing will be focused on Climate Initiatives going forward and that
by 2020 their goal is to fund power projects delivering over 30GW, essentially
powering over 150mn homes.
Arunma also talks about the importance of
Gender Equality in driving Sustainable Finance, referencing some of the World
Bank’s actions in the area including a recent 1bn CAD bond focused on Womens’
Empowerment and a recent World Bank research report which concluded that the
world economy would be over USD 160tn better off if women earned the same as
men.
